Jack Prelutsky is an American poet and children's author, born on September 8, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York. He is known for his humorous and whimsical poetry for children, which has earned him numerous awards and accolades.

Prelutsky began writing poetry in his teens and went on to study philosophy at Hunter College in New York City. After college, he worked a variety of jobs, including cab driver, furniture mover, and folk singer before turning to writing full-time.
