This was something that I had written the day I decided to join this site. You're most probably thinking that I am a geek that can't keep his head outta old books and stuff. Well, you're kinda wrong. It's just that I enjoy poetry so much that I have to express myself. Too many young adults are rapping and stuff and think that that is poetry. All this 'I've got b__ches and money, Bling-Bling nonsense.' No offense to any rappers out there, I'm not trying to generalize here. It's just that poetry is more abstract than what MOST commercial rappers say.
I am one of the biggest Hip Hop listeners in my area, listening to the likes of Talib Kweli, Mos def, Cannibus, Common, Foreign Exchange, Wu-Tang Clan, Pharoah Monch, Mad Lib, Jay Dilla... I could go on for hours here. Their lyrics are far more abstract than most commercial rappers, not because they're underground, but because they are actually USING THEIR MINDS. They are not afraid to explore the dimensions of their thoughts and that is what I call poetry.
