Melissa, I think this is a good, sad, humorous and straightforward poem about a disappointing interview. We wonder why Mrs Grace (and the Secretary) did not phone to inform the subject in the poem that she was sick? What comes out at the end of the poem, I think, is that both the institution (including Mrs Grace and the Secretary) as well as the person attending the interview need help! This poem will stick on my mind for a long time! Thanks!
This is great poem about beauty and fragility... one feels deeply about the predicament of the dancer! Is is the predicament of all arists, that life lurrs them to give all their best away until they are simply bones?
I like the way you describe - repeating some line structures, while augmenting the meaning, using contradiction, and building emphasis again - it's like a river gathering momentum from the mountains, until it breaks loose... it's a beautiful poem with a sense of craft! I would re-examine the the last four lines if I were you... have a great time writing, Lind!
