  • POEM: By My Side by steffyy davis (10/22/2009 3:02:00 PM)

Well Steph I did enjoy it. ALthough Mr. Ryan (below) is correct you should check your spelling before posting (although I am rather quilty of it myself) I did find it interesting that he complained about your spelling and gramatical errors when his post was full of them. One point I would like to make read, read, read old poetry, new poetry good poetry and bad poetry. You need to understand the rules and structure of poems so you can bend and break them to fit your voice. Don't let people that don't understand or don't like what you write. Write to please yourself and if you do others will find it pleaseing. Ok I think I prattled on long enough

  • POEM: Rainy Day, The by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (4/20/2009 5:31:00 PM)

I am a huge fan of Longfellow and this one in particular I have it typed into my PDA and refer to it often. It speaks to me, that no matter how dark things get there is sunshine somewhere.

  • POEM: Still I Rise by Maya Angelou (2/17/2009 3:53:00 PM)

First I do like this poem I like the rhyme and the meter. Although I like Mr. Straw seem to disagree with some of the metaphors and how they work or do not work. I was reading through some of the comments on here and I have noticed the same thing Kevin had noticed there seems to be a blind adulation for Miss Angelou and true venom for those that do not blindly agree with the adulation. Kevin’s comments were intelligent and well thought out worthy of discussion on the merit of the questioned metaphors. I do think that Miss Angelou is a wonderful poet and have enjoyed many of her works
