I really enjoyed your poem ignoring the fact that you do away with local (african) imageries because i enjoy african poets to make use of the divese available african imageries to spice up thier poetry. This is a nice piece

  • POEM: '' The True Martyrs We Will Proclaim '' by bri mar (9/11/2013 3:46:00 AM)

  • POET: Vonda Overlie (9/8/2013 6:38:00 PM)

I like you as a poet because your poems had touched many areas of life which do cause trauma to many. Thats why we are poets - to educate, to enlighten and your poems had sure did that in varieties of ways. U are a promising poet, that i am sure of if you keep this up.

    Has he not been beared
    From seas to streams
    Marked with cutlasses and ashes
    Forced to swallow cowries
Why would he not wear down his face?

    Has he not been living
    On his choiceless delicacy
    Concoction of gmelina roots
    And garlic sap
    Why then would he smile?

    Why would he dance?
The voilent drummers in his skull
    Were pounding thier drums
    Like groups of carpenters
    Driving pieces of nails
    Into a hardwood

    Has he not been marched
    Round the village on pant
Bearing a pot stained with dry hen's blood
And rotten bones and stenching earth
Why would he not dash out his wealth
    To seek a neater heath?

When i pull the wind closer
Lay it naked before my keen eyes
    Searching for stanzas hidden
    They call me mad

When i look at the blood
    Fluttering from my veins
    Soaking me to my soles
    And i laugh
    Like a triumphant warrior
    They call me crazy

    My nights i have slaughtered
    For the gods of inspiration
    And i wondered at night
    Like a broken lion
    They call me insane

But i am a poet on a quest
    To best lay my tent
    Where generation
    Shall peacefully rest

    My Lady My Love IV
    Your songs are the pills
    That lore me with peace
To your world of love and ease
    Even if i sleep
    On a bed of reed
    With your pills
    I dream as though
    Revelling in the wind

If i am to be called a prof.
Let ye be called prof too
If Titan i am to be called
Titan let ye be called too
    For you are the half
    That made me whole

    You are the minstrel
    Eulogizing in my heart
    And i be the dancer
    Addicted to your rhymes
