  • POEM: Standing By The Shore by Shiela Marie Anunciacion (11/9/2009 8:51:00 AM)

    Shiela, your poem, 'Standing by the Shore, ' is a good start toward expressing yourself in rythmic meter and rhyme. It turned out a bit too long. Many of your rhymes were put in place without a real connection to your trend of thought. You are going to write better, as you keep trying; so, keep on writing, and remember to connect thoughts.

  • POEM: He Said He Thought I Saved Him by Mary Nagy (11/8/2009 10:19:00 PM)

    I very much like the way you write, Mary; the feeling, the meter, and the rhyme. Ans the stories you tell.

    I'm glad to be back with Poem Hunter.

  • POEM: Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe (11/8/2009 9:55:00 PM)

    Edgar Allan Poe left us here “many and many a year ago, ” (160 years) in our poetic “kingdom by the sea, ” to dream, as he did, of our “Annabels.”

    What a gift we have ever, that none can dissever, our souls from the ones that we love.
    We have Poe and Annabel giving us beautiful
    Dreams as we continue to love.

    I am inspired by Edgar Allan Poe and many others, such as William Shakespeare, Rudyard Kipling, and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, who wrote iambic lines.

    Thirty-seven years ago I wrote: “It’s this bound verse that captured me;
    Poetic pen and all.
    It’s why I write iambic lines
    And have myself a ball.”

    I was gone from Poem Hunter for much of the past three years because of health issues. I’m back now, approaching age 87 next month, more enthusiastic than ever.
