J, my advice is to stop writing right now. Give your ego a rest and start reading good contemporary poets. There are numerous anthologies you might enjoy. As you read, you'll be learning, not so much how to copy but what's possible, and your poetry will improve after some deep immersion in the works. Nothing in, nothing out, that's a truth you need to believe. JC
Theo, stop writing right now. Begin reading LOTS of good contemporary poets. You can even limit yourself to black poets like Rita Dove. You don't know enough about poetry to write anything good. If you want a list of poets I think will inspire and educate you, ask me. A good motto for you to remember: : nothing coming in, nothing going out.
This is terrible! ! Please, stop writing and start reading good contemporary poetry. If you don't know what that is, I'll send you a list. You don't have the foggiest notion about what you're doing. Please! I'm not being mean or exclusive; you're just a bad poet who won't improve until you learn something about the ART of poetry. JC
