Your poem touched so close to home...2 of my 3 daughters have moved on to their own lives... one has already made me a proud grandma of an almost 2 year old... and the other is expecting this summer. I had tears fall as I began to read through your poem... it was as though it was my memories and feelings you were sharing. Thank you for this special touch in my day, Lilla
Silver was the first poem I ever memorized... I still remember standing in front of my class and saying 'Silver... by Walter de la Mare'... I was 9 years old. I was this little danish immigrant girl and still had very weak english. It was an assignment given in class and I remember very well being just mortified upon looking at the words I had to know. But, despite some tears of frustration... with my my mothers help and patience... I mastered that poem and proudly recited it in front of my whole class. I still remember looking at my teacher for approval and seeing a tear on her face... and the hug that came after. It's probably the most memorable moment of my school years.
