It's nice to see you writing again. The poem is full of your reticent melancholy and Larkin like detachment though with expressed with a more Hughes like passion. You used to say you felt like a premature old man, while others raved around you you retreated into a morgue like view of things. The poem expresses it perfectly.

If we treat people like chess pieces is that why life is like a game and we use the queen to protect the king. As for the pawns, they're the pieces the gods sacrifice for an advantage.

This is certainly about modern girls even in their fifties. From one who has seen the scene and felt the welts.
