  • POEM: Adam And Eve by Jerry Specht (5/25/2017 3:11:00 PM)

Jerry, not bad. I like the way you move between rhymed dialogue and free verse commentary. A tough subject for a contemporary poet to tackle.

  • POEM: I Have Been So Faraway by Peter S. Quinn (5/25/2017 3:07:00 PM)

Peter, this is a valiant attempt at writing a formal poem, but you need to stop composing for a while and study formal poetry. A good book for this is Paul Fussell's Poetic Meter and Poetic Form. Until you grasp the basic principles of rhyme and meter, you're not going to improve as a poet.

  • POEM: Men Are Homeric, Women Are Ineffable by Matthew Buchwald (5/25/2017 3:03:00 PM)

Matthew, some good lines here but the entire poem is weighed down by its insistence on offering life lessons, a kind of heavy-handed philosophizing. Maybe read some good contemporary poets like Billy Collins, who can show you that a good poem can be serious but without being solemn.
